In a remarkable display of royal generosity and commitment to educational advancement, His Royal Majesty, Oba Itu Olasunkanmi Yusuf (Ilemobade), the Onigboko of Igboko Kingdom, has pledged to donate a state-of-the-art tennis court to the Ogun State Institute of Technology (OGITECH), Igbesa.
The revered monarch made this announcement on Friday, 20th February 2026, during an official visit to the institution, where he personally inspected the designated project site. The initiative, according to Oba Yusuf, is driven by his passion to see the Polytechnic flourish not only academically but also in sports and social development—creating a balanced and enriching campus environment for students.
Speaking at the site handover ceremony, the monarch—who proudly describes himself as a youthful and forward-thinking traditional ruler—commended the institution’s Management for their unwavering dedication to the Ogun State Government’s vision of “Building Our Future Together.” He noted that he has consistently followed the institution’s growth and achievements, even through social media platforms.
“The Polytechnic community represents a vital investment in both infrastructure and human capital,” the monarch stated. “Having observed the impressive strides made by the Management, I am inspired to contribute my quota towards fostering a healthier and more dynamic academic environment.”
Fondly known as Kiniwun dawo ija tele (The Lion who initiates the battle), Oba Yusuf—who celebrated his fifth coronation anniversary in May 2024—has earned recognition for his proactive role in community development and youth empowerment across the Igboko-Lusada axis.
The Rector of the Institute, Dr. Abiodun Oluseye, who was represented by the Acting Registrar, Mrs. Sakirat Olajumoke Johnson, conveyed heartfelt appreciation to the monarch for his benevolent gesture.
Mrs. Johnson described the donation as more than a sporting upgrade, noting that it represents a strategic enhancement as the institution prepares for key administrative milestones. She emphasized that functional sporting facilities are essential requirements for institutional growth and accreditation processes.
Highlighting the expected benefits, she noted:
Enhanced Wellness: The tennis court will provide staff and students with a dedicated space for recreation and physical fitness.
Stronger Social Bonds: The facility will serve as a hub for interaction, networking, and community building within the campus.
“On behalf of the Governing Council, Management, Staff, and Students, we deeply appreciate His Royal Majesty for this timely and impactful intervention. This generous donation strengthens our sporting capacity and reinforces our readiness for forthcoming institutional engagements,” Mrs. Johnson stated.
The visit concluded with the formal handover of the project site, symbolizing the commencement of a partnership that bridges traditional leadership with academic advancement—further positioning OGITECH as a beacon of progress in Ogun State.
