As consultations deepen ahead of 2027, party faithful insist that competence, accessibility, and grassroots acceptance must guide APC’s eventual choice.
As political consultations continue within the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 House of Representatives election in Yewa South/Ipokia Federal Constituency, many party members and stakeholders are closely observing the direction of the party’s leadership, particularly regarding the possibility of adopting a consensus candidate.
While consensus remains a respected and time-tested mechanism for strengthening party unity, it must reflect the collective will of the grassroots rather than the preference of a select few. The overriding consideration should be electability, acceptability, and the capacity to secure victory at the polls.
Across the wards and communities of Yewa South/Ipokia, one name continues to resonate strongly among party faithful and the electorate alike, Hon. FAYOMI Abraham Ajibola, popularly known as FAYAB.
FAYAB has, over the years, distinguished himself as a leader who is accessible, available, capable, and deeply connected to the people. His humility, generosity, and unwavering commitment to grassroots development have earned him widespread admiration and acceptance across the federal constituency.
There is no doubt that there is a growing and legitimate expectation that the House of Representatives seat should return to Ipokia Local Government, particularly Zone C, in the interest of fairness, equity, and political balance. This aspiration is both reasonable and widely supported.
However, such a crucial opportunity must not be reduced to merely presenting any available aspirant based solely on previous appointments or past political exposure. Political relevance is not determined by former titles alone; it is measured by present engagement, visible impact, consistent consultation, and the confidence inspired among the people.
This reality has prompted many stakeholders to ask important questions: beyond previous political appointments, what measurable impact has the presently projected aspirant made across the constituency? What recent consultations have been undertaken with party leaders, community groups, and grassroots stakeholders? Where is the evidence of sustained engagement and renewed commitment?
These are valid questions, because political support cannot be commanded by entitlement; it must be earned through service, sacrifice, and consistent presence.
There is an increasing perception among party faithful that certain aspirants may be relying more on elite sponsorship than on genuine grassroots legitimacy. Yet, grassroots strength cannot be inherited, borrowed, or imposed, it must be painstakingly built over time.
Electoral politics today demands far more than name recognition. It requires energy, mobility, strategic engagement, and the ability to inspire confidence among the youth, who now constitute the backbone of modern political mobilization.
In this regard, FAYAB stands out remarkably. His sustained consultations, visible social interventions, and continuous identification with the people have naturally positioned him as the aspirant with the strongest grassroots appeal.
Ipokia Local Government, particularly Zone C, is blessed with credible and politically grounded sons. Among them, FAYAB has emerged as the most organically connected, widely accepted, and electorally viable candidate.
The House of Representatives seat for Yewa South/Ipokia should, therefore, be entrusted to a son whose popularity is rooted in the hearts of the people, not merely projected from above.
At this critical juncture, the APC must approach candidate selection as a serious electoral decision. The party must prioritize present strength over past titles, acceptability over familiarity, and grassroots popularity over elite endorsements.
The ultimate goal should be simple: to field a candidate the people can proudly defend, the youths can enthusiastically mobilize for, and the electorate can overwhelmingly support at the polls.
Anything less could expose the party to unnecessary electoral risks.
For many across Yewa South/Ipokia, the choice is becoming increasingly clear.
FAYAB is the man for the moment.
