High Chief Abayomi Olanrewaju Taofeeq Bashorun, popularly known across Ota and Aworiland as “Larrybash,” has emerged victorious in the All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives primary election for the Ado-Odo/Ota Federal Constituency, following a keenly contested exercise held across the 16 wards of the constituency on Saturday.
The Seriki of Ota defeated the incumbent lawmaker, Hon. Tunji Akinosi, alongside other aspirants, to clinch the party’s ticket in what supporters and political observers have described as a major political turning point in the constituency.
Larrybash’s emergence has since sparked jubilation across Ota, Sango, Igbesa, Atan, Itele, and other communities within Ado-Odo/Ota Federal Constituency, as thousands of party faithful, youths, market leaders, artisans, and community stakeholders celebrated what many described as “the victory of the people.”
For years, High Chief Olanrewaju Bashorun has remained a prominent grassroots figure in Ogun West politics and community development. Widely known for his humanitarian gestures, philanthropy, youth empowerment initiatives, support for widows and the elderly, and intervention in community projects, Larrybash has built a reputation as a compassionate leader deeply connected to the struggles and aspirations of the people.
Political analysts note that his victory at the APC primary reflects his growing popularity and acceptance among party members and residents of the federal constituency. Over the years, several groups, youth organizations, and community leaders had openly endorsed his ambition, describing him as a unifying figure capable of bringing purposeful and effective representation to the people.
Before the primary election, Larrybash had consistently engaged stakeholders across the constituency, promising a new era of people-oriented representation focused on infrastructure, youth development, education, empowerment, industrial collaboration, and community advancement. He had repeatedly emphasized the need to reconnect leadership with the grassroots and ensure that the dividends of democracy reach ordinary citizens.
The journey to his emergence was built on years of political consultations, community service, and active involvement in traditional and social development structures. Apart from being the Seriki of Ota Kingdom, Larrybash also serves prominently within the traditional institution and has remained influential in peace-building and community mobilization efforts across Aworiland.
Residents and supporters who spoke after the announcement of the results expressed optimism that his candidacy represents hope for a more inclusive and impactful representation at the National Assembly.
Many described him as “a man of the people” whose generosity and accessibility have earned him massive grassroots support long before his political ambition became public.
“This victory belongs to the people of Ado-Odo/Ota. Larrybash has always stood by the people in times of need. He has empowered youths, supported families, assisted the elderly, and contributed immensely to community development. We believe he will deliver effective representation,” a party supporter in Ota stated after the results were announced.
Another community leader noted that Larrybash’s popularity stems from years of visible humanitarian efforts rather than mere political promises.
“People trust him because they know his history. Even without holding public office, he has been helping the community consistently. That is why many believe his emergence will usher in better representation,” the leader said.
The APC primary election was reportedly conducted peacefully across the wards, with party delegates participating actively in the process. The outcome is already being viewed as a significant development ahead of the forthcoming general election, especially considering the strategic political importance of Ado-Odo/Ota Federal Constituency within Ogun State.
Observers also believe Larrybash’s emergence could reshape the political landscape of the constituency due to his strong grassroots structure, traditional influence, and broad-based support cutting across youths, elders, traders, professionals, and community associations.
In previous public engagements and declarations, Larrybash had maintained that his ambition was driven by a desire to bring development closer to the people and provide a stronger voice for the constituency at the national level. He had promised to focus on road infrastructure, youth employment, education support, healthcare access, industrial partnerships, and empowerment initiatives if elected into office.
As celebrations continue across various parts of the constituency, many supporters have described the APC primary victory as the beginning of what they call “a new chapter of hope, accessibility, and responsive leadership” for the people of Ado-Odo/Ota Federal Constituency.
With the APC primary now concluded, political attention is expected to shift toward the general election campaign, where Larrybash is anticipated to fly the party’s flag with strong grassroots momentum and increasing public support.
