Widows Empowerment Programme has been widely celebrated as one of the most impactful humanitarian interventions in Ogun State, reaffirming the commitment of the CHADASH Empowerment Foundation to restoring hope, promoting self-reliance and improving the economic wellbeing of widows.
Held at the Ake Palace Ground, Abeokuta, as part of activities marking the 2026 International Widows Day, the programme brought together over 3,000 widows drawn from the 20 Local Government Areas of Ogun State, who benefited from one of the largest widow empowerment initiatives ever organised in the state.
The empowerment programme, spearheaded by Chief (Mrs.) Temitope Adeola through the CHADASH Empowerment Foundation, provided beneficiaries with a wide range of vocational tools designed to ensure sustainable livelihoods. A total of 200 sewing machines, 200 make-up kits, 50 deep freezers, 200 standing hair dryers with wash basins, 400 grinding machines and 20 industrial ovens were distributed to widows to enable them establish or expand their businesses.
In addition, 2,000 widows received ₦50,000 start-up grants, paid directly into their bank accounts, bringing the total cash disbursement to ₦100 million. The initiative is expected to provide lasting economic support for the beneficiaries, enabling them to become financially independent and better cater for their families.
The event attracted an array of distinguished personalities, including the wife of the Ogun State Governor, Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun; the wife of the Minister of State for Health, Dr. Olubunmi Salako; the wife of the APC Governorship candidate in Oyo State, Mrs. Sarafadeen Alli; as well as several wives of senators, political leaders and other notable guests who commended the Foundation for its unwavering commitment to humanitarian service.
Beneficiaries described the programme as life-changing, expressing profound gratitude for the opportunity to rebuild their lives through meaningful economic empowerment rather than temporary relief. Many noted that the vocational tools and financial support would enable them to become self-employed, support their children and contribute positively to their communities.
Previous editions of the CHADASH Widows Empowerment Programme have been successfully held in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Ogun State, where thousands of widows have equally benefited from vocational training, business support and financial assistance. The consistency of the initiative has earned the Foundation widespread recognition as one of Nigeria’s leading organisations dedicated to the welfare and economic empowerment of widows.
Special appreciation continues to pour in for Yeye Aremo Chief (Mrs.) Temitope Adeola, whose compassion, generosity and unwavering dedication to improving the lives of widows have made the CHADASH Empowerment Foundation a beacon of hope for vulnerable women. Through her visionary leadership, thousands of families have been given renewed hope and the opportunity to achieve financial independence.
Observers described the fifth edition as another remarkable milestone in humanitarian service, noting that the programme goes beyond charity by providing practical tools and financial resources that empower beneficiaries to build sustainable livelihoods.
As the curtains fell on the colourful event, stakeholders called on governments, corporate organisations and philanthropists to emulate the CHADASH model of empowerment, describing it as a sustainable approach to poverty alleviation and social inclusion.
The overwhelming success of the fifth edition once again demonstrates that with compassion, visionary leadership and purposeful investment in people, lives can be transformed, families strengthened and communities empowered for a brighter future.
