The prestigious Yoruba Tennis Club, Nigeria’s foremost indigenous social club, on Thursday rolled out the red carpet for His Majesty, Professor Adeyemi Obalanlege, Ph.D. (Lanlege Ekun II, Arole Iganmode, Olofin Apesin Olode), the Olota of the Ancient and Paramount Ottaland, Awori Kingdom, during a grand reception attended by eminent personalities, traditional rulers and distinguished guests.
The colourful event, held at the historic Yoruba Tennis Club in Onikan, Lagos, reflected the club’s enduring tradition of celebrating excellence, culture and leadership. The century-old institution has long served as a meeting point for prominent Nigerians in governance, business, academia and traditional institutions.
The Olota arrived with a distinguished entourage that included His Royal Majesty, Oba Ademola Eletu Ashorota, the Onitele of Itele Ota, Awori Kingdom; High Chief Ganiyu Dada, the Oluwo Itoki of Ota; High Chief Adedayo Akindele Eleku, the Lisa of Ota; High Chief Olakunle Muftau Salako, the Bashorun of Ota; Aare Ayodele Bankole, the Otun Maiyegun of Ota; Aare Rotimi Ishola, the Aare Bobajiro of Ota; Aremo CP Bola Ojugbele, Commissioner of Police, Alagbon, Lagos; and Honourable Jimoh Ojugbele, APC Candidate for Ogun West Senatorial District.
Members and the leadership of the Yoruba Tennis Club warmly received the royal delegation with traditional courtesies, hospitality and expressions of goodwill. The occasion provided an opportunity for interaction among traditional institutions, professionals and community leaders while reinforcing the shared values of cultural preservation, unity and service to society.
The visit further underscored the cordial relationship between the Yoruba Tennis Club and traditional institutions across Yorubaland. The Olota of Ota has, over the years, maintained a visible presence at major events of the club, reflecting the mutual respect between the ancient royal institution and one of Nigeria’s most respected social organisations.
The reception concluded with goodwill messages, fellowship and renewed commitments to promoting Yoruba cultural heritage, national unity and community development.
