The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Yewa South/Ipokia Federal Constituency in the 2027 House of Representatives election, Dr. Emmanuel Oluwatoyin Taiwo, has pledged to deploy his grassroots network in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, and other APC candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Taiwo made the commitment on Saturday at the formal inauguration of the Ogun State chapter of the City Boy Movement at the Ake Palace Pavilion, Abeokuta, an event that brought together political stakeholders, youth leaders, women groups and supporters from across the three senatorial districts of the state.
The inauguration also featured the commissioning of the movement’s state secretariat and an empowerment programme, marking a significant expansion of the organisation’s structures and grassroots activities in Ogun State. Reports on the event identified Alhaji Kamorudeen Olawale Yusuf, Personal Assistant to President Tinubu on Special Duties, among the prominent figures associated with the movement’s Ogun operations.
Addressing the gathering, Taiwo described the City Boy Movement as a platform capable of deepening youth participation in politics and providing a structure through which young people could engage with governance, leadership and community development.
He commended President Tinubu’s administration and Senator Adeola’s political leadership, while declaring his commitment to the movement and its objectives.
Taiwo said he would work at the grassroots to mobilise support for Tinubu, Yayi and other APC candidates as political activities intensify towards the 2027 elections.
His emergence as the APC candidate for Yewa South/Ipokia followed the party’s 2026 House of Representatives primary, where he was declared winner of the contest. Reports from the primary put his score at 31,256 votes. He had previously served as Chief of Staff to Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun.
Taiwo has also remained visible in constituency-focused interventions. In September, he distributed educational materials, including exercise books, school sandals and socks, to pupils and students in selected public schools in Ipokia, saying the intervention was aimed at assisting children from less-privileged homes and encouraging school attendance.
Yayi: Ogun targeting two million votes for Tinubu
Speaking at the event, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, the APC governorship candidate in Ogun State for 2027, thanked Taiwo and other political stakeholders for their solidarity and participation in the inauguration.
Adeola used the occasion to emphasise the importance of grassroots organisation ahead of the 2027 elections, while highlighting youth participation, women’s inclusion, education, infrastructure and economic development among areas requiring sustained attention.
He also called for stronger mobilisation across Ogun State in support of President Tinubu.
Adeola said Ogun State, which has about 3.01 million registered voters according to figures cited in reports of his speech, should aim to deliver at least two million votes for Tinubu in 2027. The statement was presented as a political mobilisation target rather than an established electoral outcome.
The senator’s remarks placed the City Boy Movement’s inauguration within the broader political mobilisation already taking place across Ogun ahead of the 2027 elections.
The City Boy Movement has maintained an organisational presence in Ogun for several years, with activities centred on youth mobilisation, entrepreneurship and political engagement.
In 2024, the Ogun chapter announced a youth summit in Abeokuta featuring a proposed ₦45 million entrepreneurship-support programme for medium- and small-scale business owners, alongside support for technology initiatives.
The movement was also involved in a 2025 humanitarian initiative in Ogun during which more than 10,000 bags of rice were distributed to vulnerable residents, including widows, widowers, students and other disadvantaged groups. The programme was associated with Kamorudeen Yusuf and coordinated through the Ogun City Boy structure.
Its political activities have subsequently become more prominent as the 2027 election cycle approaches. In April 2026, the Ogun West chapter publicly backed Adeola following Governor Dapo Abiodun’s endorsement of him as the APC’s preferred candidate for the governorship succession.
The latest inauguration therefore represents an attempt to move beyond isolated activities towards a more formally structured state-wide organisation, with officials and ambassadors expected to operate across the various parts of Ogun.
The movement’s Ogun State leadership has been associated with Dr. Sulaiman Abdul-Lateef Adegboyega, popularly known as ADLAT, while Kamorudeen Yusuf has been identified as the movement’s State Patron, the inauguration is the new structure intended to strengthen the movement’s presence at the grassroots.
The Abeokuta gathering came at a time when political organisations across Ogun are increasingly positioning themselves for the 2027 elections.
Adeola’s emergence as the APC’s governorship candidate has already generated support declarations from different groups within the state. The City Boy Movement in Ogun East, for instance, publicly backed his candidacy in April, while other youth and community organisations have subsequently announced support for his campaign.
For Taiwo, the City Boy platform provides another avenue to connect his political campaign in Yewa South/Ipokia with the wider APC mobilisation taking shape across Ogun.
The former Chief of Staff has in recent months also spoken publicly about his intention to pursue constituency-focused initiatives in education, youth development and economic empowerment if elected to the National Assembly.
The inauguration ended with the formal installation of members as ambassadors of the City Boy Movement across Ogun State, signalling the beginning of another phase of grassroots organisation as political parties and support groups prepare for the 2027 electoral contest.
With youth mobilisation, political organisation and empowerment programmes now increasingly intertwined, the Ogun chapter of the City Boy Movement is expected to use its new structure to expand its activities across the state’s 20 local government areas in the months ahead.
