Abeokuta witnessed a remarkable convergence of royalty, statesmanship, and intellectual distinction as Crescent University marked its 20th Founder’s Day Anniversary with grandeur, reflection, and renewed commitment to excellence.
The landmark celebration, held on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at the University Auditorium, brought together an array of eminent personalities, revered traditional rulers, legal luminaries, and distinguished Nigerians from across the country. The event served not only as a commemoration of two decades of academic achievement but also as a testament to the institution’s enduring impact on Nigeria’s educational and moral landscape.
Among the prominent royal fathers in attendance were His Majesty, Professor Adeyemi Obalanlege, Ph.D. (Lanlege Ekun II, Arole Iganmode, Olofin Apesin Olode), the Olota of the Ancient and Paramount Ottaland, Awori Kingdom, and the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo III. Their presence underscored the deep cultural and traditional significance of the occasion, as well as the strong ties between the institution and its host community.
The event also attracted high-profile dignitaries, including former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, GCFR, whose attendance added national prominence to the celebration. Also present were the Chief Judge of Ogun State, Justice Mosunmola Dipeolu, alongside an impressive gathering of jurists, academics, policymakers, and thought leaders.
The anniversary was, in essence, a tribute to the enduring legacy of the University’s founder, the late Prince Bola Ajibola, KBE, CFR, SAN—a globally respected jurist, former Attorney General of the Federation, and Judge of the International Court of Justice. His lifelong dedication to justice, education, and nation-building continues to shape the institution’s philosophy and vision.
A major highlight of the celebration was the presentation of a scholarly work titled “Trends in Constitutionalism and Constitutional Adjudication in Nigeria,” authored by Kemi Pinheiro, OFR, SAN, LLD. The book was presented in honour of Prince Mahruf Adesegun Ajibola, SAN, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the University’s Governing Council, in recognition of his contributions to legal scholarship and institutional leadership.
Founded in 2006, Crescent University has grown into a reputable centre of learning, distinguished for its commitment to academic excellence, character development, and the promotion of ethical values. Over the past two decades, the institution has consistently produced graduates equipped not only with intellectual competence but also with the moral discipline required to contribute meaningfully to society.
As the University celebrates this significant milestone, the event stands as both a reflection on its impactful journey and a forward-looking reaffirmation of its mission to advance knowledge, foster integrity, and nurture future leaders.
