Hon. Lai Taiwo Picks Senatorial Nomination Form, Expresses Strong Confidence in Victory

In a bold and defining step toward realizing his senatorial ambition, frontline aspirant, Hon. Olayiwola “Lai” Taiwo, has officially picked his Senatorial Nomination Form at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja on Thursday afternoon.
Speaking with confidence and clarity after the exercise, Hon. Taiwo—who also holds the revered title of Aare Ona Kakanfo of Awori Land—commended the party’s national leadership for adopting direct primaries. According to him, this decision will empower the most popular and impactful candidates to emerge, ultimately strengthening the party’s chances of delivering overwhelming victories for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola in the 2027 general elections.
With a firm belief in his political strength, Taiwo emphasized that his track record of hard work, unwavering dedication to party growth, ability to unify diverse interests, and deep-rooted grassroots acceptance position him as a formidable contender in the primaries.
Addressing his motivation to run for the Senate, he highlighted his wealth of experience in governance—having served as both a legislator and a cabinet member in Ogun State. He noted that his deep understanding of the district and its people uniquely equips him to deliver effective representation and tackle pressing developmental needs.
Hon. Taiwo further reaffirmed his longstanding commitment to the progress of Ogun West, stressing that even outside government, he has remained actively engaged with communities through consistent interactions with CDAs, CDCs, and other grassroots groups, responding to their immediate concerns and aspirations.
Reflecting on his achievements in public office, he recalled his impactful tenure as Commissioner for Works, Housing, and Agriculture, where he oversaw the construction of numerous inter-town and intra-town roads across Ogun State—particularly in Ogun West. Notably, he delivered the Imeko-Ilara Road project within his first 100 days in office, spearheaded the development of the Laderin Workers Estate, and facilitated the establishment of TRACE, creating employment opportunities for many youths in the region as pioneer officers.
On his chances at the polls, Taiwo expressed strong optimism, noting that his extensive grassroots mobilization efforts in recent months were instrumental in boosting electoral support for both the President and the Governor. He believes these efforts have further solidified his political base, giving him a clear edge.
Without hesitation, he stated that his contributions to expanding party membership and strengthening its structure surpass those of his contemporaries in the race.
While acknowledging the remarkable performance of the incumbent senator, Sen. Yayi, for elevating the district, Taiwo pledged to build on that foundation. He assured constituents of his readiness to sustain and surpass the current momentum through his personal commitment, experience, and strong political network at the National Assembly.
