In a move widely seen as a strategic step toward consolidating party unity ahead of the 2027 general elections, a former Senior Special Assistant to Ogun State Governor, Bayo Orebiyi, has been adopted as the consensus candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Yewa South Constituency seat in the Ogun State House of Assembly.
Orebiyi’s emergence follows extensive consultations among influential stakeholders and party leaders across Yewa South Local Government Area, culminating in a unanimous endorsement that positions him as the party’s preferred aspirant for the forthcoming primaries.
Party insiders describe the decision as a reflection of growing cohesion within the APC ranks in the constituency, underscoring a deliberate effort to present a united front and strengthen the party’s electoral prospects.
Speaking on the development, APC chieftain Mufutau Ajibola emphasized that Orebiyi’s selection was anchored on his unwavering loyalty, long-standing commitment to the party, and deep-rooted connection with the grassroots. According to him, these qualities, combined with Orebiyi’s administrative experience, make him a compelling choice to represent the constituency at the state level.
The endorsement also drew strong backing from key political figures, including the Governor’s Special Adviser on Government House Affairs, Babatunde Olaotan; APC stalwart, Chief Iyabo Apampa; and former federal lawmaker, Kola Lawal. They collectively described the consensus arrangement as part of the party’s broader efforts to foster internal harmony and reinforce democratic values within its fold.
Expressing confidence in his candidacy, the leaders noted that Orebiyi possesses the capacity to unify party members across Yewa South while energizing support ahead of the polls, ultimately boosting the APC’s chances of a decisive victory.
In his acceptance remarks, Orebiyi expressed gratitude to party leaders and supporters for the trust placed in him, characterizing the endorsement as both an honour and a call to higher service. He pledged to prioritize effective, people-oriented representation and called on fellow aspirants and party faithful to close ranks in pursuit of collective success for the APC in Yewa South and Ogun State.
Observers believe the consensus arrangement could play a crucial role in diffusing pre-primary tensions, while reinforcing the party’s readiness for the electoral contest ahead.
