A major political rift within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Yewa South was brought to a peaceful resolution on Thursday following the intervention of the Olu of Ilaro and Paramount Ruler of Yewaland, Oba Kehinde Gbadewole Olugbenle.
The monarch successfully mediated in the lingering disagreement between the Deputy Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly and representative of Yewa South State Constituency, Rt. Hon. Lateefat Bolanle Ajayi, and APC aspirant, Hon. Bayo Orebiyi, who is widely backed by influential party leaders in the local government.
At a high-level stakeholders’ meeting convened in Ilaro by the revered monarch, Oba Olugbenle disclosed that Hon. Ajayi had agreed to step aside and concede the party ticket to Orebiyi after extensive consultations and interventions by respected elders and political leaders from within and outside Yewa South.
The announcement was received with enthusiasm and relief by party faithful and stakeholders present at the gathering, signalling a new chapter of unity within the APC in the area.
In a symbolic show of reconciliation and sportsmanship, Rt. Hon. Ajayi openly apologized to party leaders and supporters, before raising the hands of Hon. Orebiyi in endorsement — a gesture that drew loud applause and admiration from attendees.
Prominent party leaders including Hon. Muftau Ajibola, Senator Iyabo Anisulowo, Chief Mrs Iyabo Apampa, and Engr. Yinka Akintomide, praised the peaceful resolution and commended both political figures for embracing unity in the interest of the party and the development of Yewaland.
Speaking after the reconciliation, Hon. Orebiyi expressed profound gratitude to Rt. Hon. Ajayi for her maturity and sacrifice, while also appreciating Oba Olugbenle and party elders for their fatherly role in restoring harmony.
The meeting also attracted several APC stalwarts, opinion leaders, and community stakeholders, including Hon. Kolawole Lawal, Hon. Chief Fatai Olayode, Hon. Bunmi Dada, Alhaji Ali Ajibode, Capt. Joseph Oke, Chief Tunji Idowu, Hon. Kayode Salako, Professor Tope Popoola, and several others.
Political observers believe the reconciliation marks a significant turning point for the APC in Yewa South ahead of future political engagements, with many describing the intervention of Oba Olugbenle as a demonstration of exemplary traditional leadership and commitment to peace, stability, and political cohesion in Yewaland.
