The Muslim community in Ogun State and beyond has been thrown into mourning following the passing of the President of the League of Imams and Alfas in Ogun State and Grand Chief Imam of Yewaland, Sheikh Sikirulai Babalola, who died at the age of 98.
News of the revered Islamic scholar’s death was received with deep shock and sadness by religious leaders, traditional rulers, political stakeholders, and thousands of faithful across the state who described his demise as the end of a remarkable era of spiritual leadership and wisdom.
The late Sheikh Babalola was widely regarded as one of the foremost Islamic clerics in Ogun State whose life was devoted to the service of Allah, humanity, and the promotion of peace among diverse communities. Throughout his lifetime, he remained a symbol of humility, discipline, integrity, and unwavering faith, earning the admiration and respect of Muslims and non-Muslims alike.
As President of the League of Imams and Alfas in Ogun State and Grand Chief Imam of Yewaland, Sheikh Babalola played a pivotal role in fostering unity within the Muslim Ummah and strengthening inter-religious harmony across Ogun State. Family members, Islamic scholars, community leaders, and faithful gathered in large numbers at Igan Alalade in Yewa North Local Government Area for his burial ceremony, where prayers were offered for the repose of his soul.
Those present at the burial described the late nonagenarian cleric as a father to many generations whose teachings and exemplary lifestyle would continue to inspire future leaders within the Islamic community.
Prayers were also offered for Almighty Allah to grant the deceased Aljanah Firdaus and give strength and comfort to his family, associates, and the entire Muslim faithful affected by the painful loss.
The passing of Sheikh Sikirulai Babalola marks the close of a significant chapter in the religious history of Yewaland and Ogun State, but his enduring legacy of faith, peace, and selfless service will continue to live on in the hearts of many.
