In a major effort to boost food production, strengthen food security and reduce poverty, the Senator representing Ogun West Senatorial District, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (YAYI), has empowered 2,557 farmers across Ogun State with modern agricultural equipment, farm inputs and cash grants worth millions of naira.
The intervention, held in Abeokuta, marks the second edition of the senator’s agricultural empowerment programme and is in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on agriculture and food security.
Speaking at the event, Senator Adeola said the initiative was designed to improve agricultural productivity, enhance farmers’ incomes, encourage youth participation in farming and contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s drive towards food sufficiency.
He noted that beneficiaries of the maiden edition had recorded remarkable successes, with many expanding their farming businesses and improving their economic status.
According to the lawmaker, the programme demonstrates his unwavering commitment to complementing government efforts in addressing food shortages, creating jobs and alleviating poverty through sustainable agricultural development.
A total of 2,557 farmers benefitted from the programme, receiving a wide range of agricultural equipment and inputs, including 10 tractors with complete attachments, 250 haulage tricycles, 1,500 knapsack sprayers, 8,000 bags of NPK and Urea fertilisers, 1,000 solar and gasoline water pumps, 1,000 seed planters, 17 power tillers, 25 varieties of improved seeds and seedlings, 100 organic liquid fertilisers, 1,500 Agric Enzymes 3X, 2,000 pesticides, as well as hoes, cutlasses, shovels, wheelbarrows and other farming tools.
In addition to the farm implements and inputs, each beneficiary received a cash grant of ₦100,000 to support farming activities and improve productivity.
Agriculture stakeholders at the event described the intervention as one of the most comprehensive farmer-support programmes by an individual lawmaker in Ogun State, noting that the combination of mechanised equipment, quality farm inputs and financial assistance would significantly enhance food production and improve the livelihoods of rural farmers.
The empowerment programme attracted prominent political leaders, party chieftains, community leaders and stakeholders from across the state.

Hon. Titi Oseni-Shodunke; APC Ogun West Senatorial Chairman, Alhaji Mohammed Ekweme; former Ogun State PDP Chairman and APC chieftain, Hon. Sikirulai Ogundele; APC Ogun West Senatorial Candidate, Hon. Jimoh Ojugbele; APC House of Representatives Candidate for Ado-Odo/Ota Federal Constituency, Seriki Bashorun; Hon. Muftau Ajibola, Chief Olu Agemo, Hon. Bisiriyu Popoola, and several other political leaders and stakeholders.
Observers said the initiative further reinforces Senator Adeola’s reputation as a strong advocate of agricultural development and rural economic empowerment, while complementing the Federal Government’s efforts to achieve food security, stimulate local food production and improve the welfare of farmers across Ogun State.
With the growing adoption of mechanised farming and sustained support for agricultural enterprises, stakeholders expressed optimism that Ogun State would continue to witness increased productivity, enhanced rural development and greater participation of young people in agribusiness.
