The Ogun State Police Command wishes to assure residents and the general public that Ogun State remains peaceful, safe, and secure. The Command also debunks the false and misleading reports circulating on social media alleging bandit attacks on schools and communities within the Ota and Ifo areas, as well as claims that suspected bandits were arrested in Atan-Ota.
The Command states categorically that there has been no bandit attack, kidnapping incident, terrorist activity, or any form of security breach anywhere in Ogun State, including Oluke Community High School, Sango Ota High School (Ijoko Axis), Fadunsin Area of Ijoko, Atan-Ota, Sango-Ota, Agbado, Ifo, and adjoining communities.
Following the circulation of the false reports, police operatives from the affected divisions were immediately deployed to conduct on-the-spot assessments, verify the claims, and carry out confidence-building patrols aimed at preventing panic and reassuring residents.
In addition, the Command’s School Protection Squad, working closely with Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) in the affected areas, conducted security assessments of all schools mentioned in the reports. The exercise confirmed that all schools were safe, secure, and fully operational. Academic activities proceeded peacefully and without interruption, with students and staff completing the school day normally.
The Command notes with concern the unnecessary fear and anxiety caused by the spread of unverified information. Residents are assured that there is no cause for alarm, as all affected communities remain calm and under effective security coverage. Findings from assessments across the affected areas confirmed that academic, commercial, and social activities continued normally, with no threat to lives or property.
The Command further clarifies that the recent operation carried out in Kajola-Ilese, Atan-Ota, led to the arrest of thirty-eight (38) foreign nationals from Côte d’Ivoire, comprising nineteen (19) males and nineteen (19) females between the ages of 25 and 35 years. The individuals were found in an apartment following credible intelligence and were unable to provide valid immigration or travel documents during preliminary screening.
The suspects claimed to have entered Nigeria for online business activities. Upon completion of preliminary police procedures, they were handed over to the Nigeria Immigration Service for further investigation and necessary administrative action in accordance with immigration laws and regulations.
At no point during the operation were bandits, kidnappers, or terrorists arrested, nor was any security incident linked to the apprehension. Any attempt to associate the arrested foreign nationals with banditry or violent criminal activities is false, misleading, and capable of causing unnecessary panic and public anxiety.
The Command urges members of the public to remain calm, avoid spreading unverified information, and refrain from actions capable of creating fear or tension within communities. Effective security management depends on responsible communication, accurate reporting, and timely verification of information.
The Ogun State Police Command appreciates the vigilance and continued cooperation of residents with security agencies. Officers and personnel remain fully deployed across the state, carrying out sustained patrols, intelligence-led operations, and proactive measures to ensure the safety of lives and property.
Residents of Ota, Ifo, Atan-Ota, Ijoko, Sango-Ota, Agbado, and surrounding communities are advised to continue their lawful activities without fear, as Ogun State remains safe and secure.
The Command reiterates its commitment to protecting lives and property and encourages members of the public to verify security-related information through official channels before sharing.
