The Ancient and Paramount Ottaland has officially commenced preparations for the grand celebration of the Diamond Jubilee Birthday of His Majesty, Professor Adeyemi AbdulKabir Obalanlege, Ph.D., Lanlege Ekun II, Arole Iganmode, Olofin Apesin Olode, the Olota of Ottaland, with the unveiling of a specially designed commemorative logo and the constitution of a high-powered planning committee for the week-long event.
Announcing the development, Prince Adeyemi Sulaimon Olusesi, Principal Secretary to His Majesty, the Olota of the Ancient and Paramount Ottaland, described the Diamond Jubilee celebration as a historic milestone that reflects six decades of exemplary leadership, service to humanity, cultural preservation, and unwavering commitment to the advancement of the Awori people.
According to Prince Olusesi, the official Diamond Jubilee logo was carefully crafted to symbolize the monarch’s enduring legacy, courage, wisdom, and remarkable contributions to nation-building and traditional leadership.
“The logo is not merely a commemorative emblem; it is a powerful representation of the life, vision and achievements of His Majesty. Its rich royal colours of gold and purple depict dignity, prestige, excellence and the timeless values that have defined the reign and personality of Lanlege Ekun II. It is a fitting symbol for a monarch whose influence transcends traditional boundaries and whose leadership continues to inspire generations,” he stated.
Prince Olusesi further disclosed that His Majesty has approved the constitution of a three-member Planning Committee to coordinate activities for the celebration scheduled to hold between 21st and 28th August 2026.
The committee comprises:
Aare Ayodele Bankole, Otun Maiyegun of Otta – Chairman
High Chief Abayomi Olanrewaju Basorun, the Seriki of Otta – Member
High Chief Adedayo Akindele Eleku, the Lisa of Otta and Chairman of the Ita-Oba Day Celebrations – Member
The Principal Secretary noted that the distinguished chiefs, who are respected members of the Olota-in-Council, were carefully selected based on their proven leadership capacities, experience and dedication to the progress of Ottaland.
“His Majesty is confident that the committee will deliver a befitting celebration worthy of a revered monarch whose reign has significantly elevated the profile of Ottaland and the Awori Kingdom on both national and international stages,” Prince Olusesi added.
He revealed that the week-long programme will feature an array of cultural exhibitions, traditional rites, community development initiatives, religious activities, youth engagements and royal ceremonies designed to celebrate the monarch’s remarkable journey and enduring impact on society.
The celebrations will climax on Friday, 28th August 2026, with a grand reception expected to attract an impressive gathering of eminent Nigerians, royal fathers, political leaders, captains of industry, diplomats, public servants and community stakeholders from across the country and beyond.
Fuji music icon King Ayinde Marshal is expected to entertain guests at the historic event.
Among the distinguished personalities expected at the grand reception are Kashim Shettima, who will serve as Special Guest of Honour and Chairman of the Occasion; Olusegun Obasanjo, Father of the Day; Dapo Abiodun, Chief Host; Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, Host; and Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, who will serve as Royal Father of the Day and Chairman-at-Large.
Prince Olusesi emphasized that the Diamond Jubilee celebration will be more than a birthday commemoration, describing it as a celebration of the resilience, heritage, unity and aspirations of the Awori people.
“This celebration presents an opportunity for the people of Ottaland, Aworiland and friends of the kingdom across the globe to honour a monarch whose reign has brought remarkable progress, stability and cultural renaissance. It will undoubtedly go down in history as one of the most memorable royal celebrations in contemporary Nigeria,” he said.
The Diamond Jubilee Birthday Celebration of His Majesty, Professor Adeyemi AbdulKabir Obalanlege, Lanlege Ekun II, is widely anticipated to be a landmark event that will further strengthen the cultural identity and developmental aspirations of the Ancient and Paramount Ottaland.
